The Cedars of God forest in Bcharre contains about 375 century-old trees, two of which are said to be more than three thousand years old and ten of which are more than a thousand years old. Rising temperatures and falling rain and snowfall have caused an insect that gnaws on the needles of the cedars to proliferate since the late 1990s. Known as Cephalcia tannourinensis, it is mostly found in the Tannourine forest - where more than 170 trees have completely dried out by 2017.
